The Nizhny Novgorod Region is known worldwide for such brands as famous Khokhloma painting and Matryoshka, the Volga River, the Nizhny Novgorod Fair, Diveyevo village, where Orthodox sanctuaries of Russia are kept, the supersonic fighter (MIG), hydrofoils, automobile factory GAS, Volga car and names like Maxim Gorky, Alexander Pushkin, Andrey Sakharov, Chkalov…

Maxim Gorky (1868-1936) is one of the world’s most famous Russian writers and thinkers. He was born in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod). The city has three museums (the Kashirin House, Museum of Childhood, the Memorial Flat of M. Gorky, the Literary Museum)
Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) is the greatest national Russian poet. In the village of Bolshoe Boldino (140 km from Nizhny Novgorod), the poet wrote many famous works, fairy tales and more than 30 poems. In the village, there is a memorial estate of A.S. Pushkin, where the time turns back and tourists find themselves in the era of Pushkin’s times.
Valery Chkalov (1904-1938), a Soviet test pilot, a Hero of the Soviet Union, the commander of the crew that made the first nonstop flight across the North Pole from Moscow to Vancouver (State of Washington). The main attraction for tourists in Chkalovsk (100 km from Nizhny Novgorod) became the Museum Quarter, which successfully combined an idea of the conquest of the speed in the air and on the water, and joined the two great men associated with the Chkalov land – V.P. Chkalov and R.E. Alekseyev (who was the first in the world to rise river vessels above the water). Here there are a memorial museum of Chkalov, an hangar with legendary ANT-25 airplane, a museum of speeds; tastings, guided tours to the plant of air embroidery – lace (craft of the XIX century) are held
Golden Khokhloma brand is known throughout the world. In the city of Semyonov (79 km from Nizhny Novgorod), there is a Khokhloma Painting factory, a company store, a Golden Khokhloma tourist center. Tourists will visit the factory, attend a master class in Matryoska painting, and buy souvenirs.
The Volga River is one of the largest rivers in the world and the longest in Europe (3530 km). The city of Nizhny Novgorod is located at the confluence of the Volga and the Oka. Visiting the symbol of the city, the Arrows, where one can see the merger of the two rivers, leaves a special impression on tourists.
Holy Rus - Diveyevo Excursion involves visiting Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery, the Greatest Sanctuary of the Orthodox world (180 km). Water sources, miracle-working icons. The tour includes a stop at the ‘closed city’ of Sarov, a city where the first Soviet atomic and hydrogen bomb was developed.
Gorodets is one of the small towns of Russia (1152) that has preserved its unique color (67 km from Nizhny Novgorod). It is one of the ancient Russian settlements in the Volga territory. It is a unique city of craftsmen. Here, people preserve the tradition of woodcarving and painting, gold embroidery, weaving. A visit to the Museum Quarter, factories, workshops. Russian folklore.

“Gorky...- Pushkin...-Volga...”

Arrival of the guests to Nizhny Novgorod (from Moscow or Saint-Petersburg or Kazan), check-in at the hotel.

Sightseeing tour over Nizhny Novgorod (former Gorky). The route shall include visiting of key places of interest, sightseeing platforms, visiting of the historical centre. In the course of the excursion the tourists will have an opportunity to get acquainted with historical monuments, dedicated to the great writer Maxim Gorky.

The program includes the following: Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin (defensive fortress of XVI century) with step up to fortress walls and viewing of interiors, exhibition of weapons and military equipment, builder of the former governor’s palace, Michael Archangel Cathedral, where Kozma Minin is buried, Upper Volga River Embankment and sights of Volga, monument to V.P. Chkalov, famous confluence of rivers (Volga and Oka), Chkalov stairs, Hero boat.

Lunch.

Special excursion “Gorky - man of the epoch” with visiting of one of three museums according to the choice of the Customer - Museum of A.M.Gorky’s childhood/Memorial Flat of A.M.Gorky/Literature Museum.

Squares, streets, railways stations are named after Gorky, his works are quoted even by the common people.

Walk along Nizhny Novgorod Arbat - pedestrian street, called Bolshaya Pokrovskaya. It is major and the most beautiful street of the city, resembling Moscow Arbat. Here you can find luxurious mansions of different architectural styles and epochs, theaters, exhibition halls and galleries, vernissage of the artists. Visiting of Yurkovka Gallery, where all the pictures are made of natural materials and visiting of large gift shop. Transfer to the hotel.

Check-out of the hotel. Transfer to Bolshoe Boldino (190 km). Route information during the trip, upon the arrival there shall be a folkloric reception according to the Russian traditions - bread and salt.  Within three hundred years the village and nearby lands belonged to the Pushkins. That is the place, where the great poet had been working prolifically for three autumns. Visiting of Pushkin open air museum - country estate, where the poet lived and worked. Here you can find authentic objects, which were owned by the family of the poet. Viewing of the aristocratic mansion, walk along the territory of their garden, viewing of the bath house, servants’ quarters, horse stable, exposition, based on the fairy tales.  Tourists shall feel the atmosphere of Pushkin’s epoch, making photos in the costumes, styled on XVIII century. Photos at the famous humpback bridge.

Transfer to Nizhny Novgorod.

Trip across the rope way with handling of the personal certificates. It is not only the single rope way in Europe, connecting two cities, it is also considered to be the longest (3661 m) and the highest (95 m) rope way in Europe. Time of one way passage of the cabin is 12.5 minutes. During the passage the tourists shall get unforgettable impressions, enjoy wonderful sights of Nizhny Novgorod nature.

Transfer to Nizhny Novgorod airport or railway station.

Along the travel of the route the tourist shall be get acquainted with some traveling information and have a view over Rozhdestvenskaya street (Merchant’s street), Annunciation Cathedral, Nizhny Novgorod trade fair.

“Back in USSR”

There are many places in Nizhny Novgorod, which preserve the evidences of communism. In the course of the excursion the visitors will have an opportunity to see a residential district, which in 1930-th was designed especially for the young specialists of Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) and it still preserves the atmosphere of that era. Monuments to V.I.Lenin, guard desk of GAZ automobile plant, Busygin quarter, radius house, Youth prospect, Busygin gray house (the longest building). Visiting of GAZ plant museum, where unique collection of automobiles is stored (the first Volga automobile was produced in 1956).

“Matryoshka - the beauty and gold Khokhloma”

There is a small town of Semenov in 79 km from Nizhny Novgorod (its population is 24500 persons). That is the place, where Russian mega popular brand Khokhloma is produced. Items, painted in red, black and golden, decorated with the pictures of berries, leaves and flowers are not only very beautiful, they are really serviceable souvenirs, which may be used in everyday life (for example you can drink hot tea from the wooden cup and it won’t be damaged). Main place of interest is Semenov plant of Khokhloma painting. Tourists have an excursion in the production shops, they would be able not only to see how the masters produce and paint the items, they will have an opportunity to paint matryoshka by themselves. In the course of the excursion there will be “a meeting with Semenovna” - viewing of the log hut, tea drinking, tasting of the pies from the stove.

“Town of craftsmen in ancient Gorodets”

This wonderful town is located in 67 km from Nizhny Novgorod. Gorodets is the most ancient and one of the most beautiful towns in Nizhny Novgorod region. Even the names of the museums are “fairy” here: “Town of Craftsmen”, “Museum of Samovar”, “Museum of Goodwill”, “Museum of Spice cake”. Here you can find real wooden houses, which have been recently built according to the ancient Russian traditions, there are also authentic houses of XIX century. Here wood carving may be found almost at every louver and canopy. Besides here the tourists will be able to paint wooden dishes with Gorodets painting, make clay toys (whistles), make a gift from the wicker, try to embroider with golden cotton. Tourists shall be really impressed by the Volga scenery, which you can enjoy for many hours. Here you can enjoy Russian tea parties with tasting of flavorous spice cakes.

<“Diveyevo - great Russian relic”

Holy places of Russia. The village of Diveyevo attracts tourists from the whole Russia. Here in 180 km from Nizhny Novgorod, magnificent Saint Diveyevo Monastery is located, it is considered to the fourth and the only Inheritance of the Holy Mother. Right Reverend Seraphim Sarovsky (1759-1833) came from Diveyevo convent, so many visitors come here to the acting nunnery to make a bow to his relics. According to believers, miracles take place in Diveyevo. There are thousands of healings, including the healing from disability to have children. Seraphim Sarovsky - is one of the most revered Saints (and not only in Russia). Many springs are located in the village and the believers bathe there all year round. The excursion is supplemented with a visit to the town of Arzamas (1578), which in the ancient times was called “The country of geese, the capital of onions”. On the way to Diveyevo there will be a stop near guard deck of the tech city of Nizhny Novgorod region, forbidden town Sarov. In 1946 a secret object KB-11 was located there and the town acquired the status of forbidden one (before 1991 - Arzamas-16, after 1995 - Kremlev).

“Peshelan - underground museum-mine”

Acting gypsum mine. Museum of mining, geology and speleology is arranged here. If you are ready to wear work suits of real miners - you can go down to the depth of 70 m and enjoy fascinating excursion. Shungite cave, kingdom of underground cold, meeting with the “Hostess of the mount” - that is Peshelan (in 120 km from Nizhny Novgorod).  Adolescents under 14 are not allowed to go down to the mine. Museums give the visitors an opportunity to get acquainted with acting production, basics of the mining, see how the white-snow gypsum is mined.

“To the motherland of Chkalov, great research pilot”

In 100 km from Nizhny Novgorod the town of Chkalovsk is located - it is a motherland of legendary pilot Valery Chkalov, who is well-known all around the world due to the long nonstop flight from the USSR to the USA via the Northern Pole. During the tour the guests shall visit memorial house of Chkalov, have a look at the shelter, where the ANT-25 plane, at which he had made his heroic flight, as well as pursuit planes, he had been tested, are exhibited. Here you can see the gift, presented to Chkalov by I.V.Stalin - cornflower blue Packard. There is also a museum of speeds, where you can see rare models of hydrofoil boats, aerodynamic crafts and even rare Burlak barges. After the excursion the tourists shall enjoy the degustation of sparkling vines, linseed oil and cheeses.
